The Walk: key sections
1. Llanfihangel y Pennant to Minffordd (5.2 miles)
Starting at the ruins of Tŷ’n-y-Ddôl, where Mary Jones lived, this section takes you through the picturesque Cwm Llan valley. You’ll pass the historic Castell y Bere and enjoy sightings of wild violets and nesting cormorants at Craig yr Aderyn. The section ends at Dôl Idris car park in Minffordd.
2. Minffordd to Brithdir (6 miles)
This stretch climbs through Cwmrhwyddfor and offers stunning views of Cadair Idris and Lake Tal-y-Llyn. Passing through oak woodlands and farmland, walkers will cross waterfalls and follow historic trails before arriving in Brithdir.
3. Brithdir to Dolfeili (5.25 miles)
From Brithdir, the route follows countryside paths and quiet roads, offering views of the Mawddach Estuary. This section is rich in natural beauty, with bluebell woods in spring and panoramic views of Moel Offrwm and Rhobell Fawr.
4. Dolfeili to Llanuwchllyn (6.25 miles)
A more open landscape characterises this section, which leads walkers past Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake). The route features traditional farm tracks and stunning lake views before you reach Llanuwchllyn.
5. Llanuwchllyn to Bala (5.5 miles)
The final section follows the shores of Llyn Tegid, leading into Bala. Walkers will arrive in Bala at the former home of Rev Thomas Charles which is honoured with a plaque on the outside of the building. Travel onwards to Llanycil, a site of Christian heritage for over 1,500 years, before arriving at the Mary Jones Pilgrim Centre, where a warm welcome awaits all visitors.
